Abstract: To ensure the effective achievement of the goal of preventing and combating sexual exploitation and sexual abuse of children, the relevant provisions of the Special Part of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Moldova and of the Criminal Code of Romania must comply with the provisions of Articles 18–23 of the Lanzarote Convention. Not all of these provisions have been implemented in the Criminal Code of the Republic of Moldova and the Criminal Code of Romania. Unjustified deviations from the provisions of Articles 18–23 of the Lanzarote Convention undermine the process of international harmonization of legal norms regarding the prevention and combating of sexual exploitation and sexual abuse of children. In order to enhance the compatibility of the provisions of the Lanzarote Convention with the relevant provisions of the special part of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Moldova and that of the Criminal Code of Romania, solutions are proposed to improve the quality of these provisions.
