Abstract: In Eastern European countries, undercover investigation goes by various names, such as: the use of undercover investigators; operational infiltration; or carrying out a special mission within an organized group or criminal organization; however, the underlying principles are common. The differences relate to the legal limits of the undercover investigator’s activities, as well as the ways in which the information obtained is used. Undercover investigation is applied in particular to the detection of crimes such as drug trafficking, arms trafficking, corruption, and organized crime. Thus, the types of undercover investigations, derived from the practical experience of law enforcement agencies, represent an effective methodology for investigating these categories of crimes.
Keywords: undercover investigation, agent, special (operational) investigative activity, special investigative measures, special (operational) case.
