This article focuses on the reform of general contract law, which was implemented in Romania through the adoption of the new Civil Code, which took effect on October 1, 2011, and in France through several proposals discussed in academic circles beginning in 2003. Given the common origins of the two countries’ legal systems, the reforms are similar. Of course, in both cases, the existence of European initiatives to harmonize contract law played an important role in this regard.
