Human trafficking, particularly that involving women and children, constitutes a serious violation of human rights, especially human dignity and personal integrity. The new Penal Code marks a significant development in the regulation of human trafficking offenses within our criminal law. The legislature has sought to systematize these offenses, dedicating a separate chapter to them for the first time within the broader category of crimes against the person. This chapter includes: slavery (Art. 209), human trafficking (Art. 210), trafficking in minors (Art. 211), subjection to forced or compulsory labor (Art. 212), pimping (Art. 213), exploitation of begging (Art. 214), the use of a minor for the purpose of begging (Art. 215), and the use of the services of an exploited person (Art. 216).
However, the provisions of the new Criminal Code regarding human trafficking are not immune to criticism.
Keywords: human trafficking, slavery, pimping, exploitation.
