Abstract:During the Quebec-Romania Bilateral Legal Days, held as part of the 160th anniversary of the founding of the University of Bucharest’s Faculty of Law, speakers were invited to present the current state of the law in their respective jurisdictions, given their shared French origins. This paper traces the evolution of the legal philosophy underlying Quebec’s law of persons since its first codification in 1866, demonstrating how it has evolved from a philosophy strictly focused on the protection of property to one centered on the values of equality, autonomy, dignity, and freedom.
