Abstract: In 2003, the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage was adopted under the auspices of UNESCO, thereby providing the legal framework necessary to protect this virtually limitless and still little-known category of heritage, both at the national and international levels. Romania, a State Party to the aforementioned Convention, has its own legislation in this area: Law No. 26/2008 on the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage. This article aims to analyze the relationship between domestic laws and the aforementioned provisions of the Convention, as well as how domestic law complies with the relevant international standards.
